Walhalla's Star Hotel is located in the heart of Walhalla Historic Township, this 12 room, 4 star boutique hotel combines stylish surrounding with a peaceful environment. Walhalla is hidden in a deep valley of the Victorian Alps and was one of Victoria's richest gold mining towns a century ago. Over 75 tons of gold was removed from the village, however in 1914 the gold ran out and Walhalla was virtually abandoned. Today, Walhalla has less than 20 residents but it is a popular tourist destination with lots to see and do. Being just over 2 hours drive from central Melbourne; Walhalla is a magnet for people wishing to experience a bygone era. Many of the town's historic building remain and the steep sided valley provides a dramatic backdrop to the cute cottages, meandering stream and exotic trees. The Star Hotel was built in 1999 as a replica of the original "gold-era" Star Hotel. On the outside it looks like that original, however on the inside it is a modern property and all bedrooms feature ensuites, king size beds, CD players and either veranda or garden access.
